If I understand this right, it is related to BD-J menus ? And it is<br>
slow even if menu is "empty" (= nothing visible on the display) ?<br>

Have you tried if HDMV discs (= discs without BD-J) play any better ?<br>
That would be easy way to check if it has something to do with BD-J.<br>
