The first version of dtsdec, a free DTS Coherent Acoustics decoder, has been released: http://www.videolan.org/dtsdec.html DTS Coherent Acoustics is a high quality multi-channel (5.1) digital audio format in use in DVD's and DTS audio CD's and until know (as far as I know) there was no Open Source implementation of this codec. Of course there is still much work to be done on dtsdec and a few things are still not implemented but it is nonetheless working quite well on all the samples I could get my hand on (not a lot though, I have to admit). VLC media player also becomes the first Open Source application able to play DTS audio. You can find pre-compiled versions of VLC with DTS support over here: http://download.videolan.org/pub/testing/vlc-0.7.1-test1/ Enjoy, -- Gildas Bazin -- This is the libdts-devel mailing-list If you are in trouble, please contact From banan at student.luth.se Fri Feb 13 08:45:44 2004 From: banan at student.luth.se (Benjamin Larsson) Date: Fri, 13 Feb 2004 02:45:44 -0500 Subject: [libdts-devel] DTS files Message-ID: <402C80A8.60805@student.luth.se> Couldn't find any mail archive so I'm posting this info from usenet: --Snip-- A very complete list with all 116 officially (commercially pressed) DTS audio cd's can be found on: http://www.blam1.com/LaserDisc/dts_CD_Releases.htm http://www.hodie-world.com/completeliteshop.html Some sources of multichannel (DD / DTS) files: http://www.sr.se/multikanal/english/e_steg.stm http://www.masterpinguin.de/surround/files/main.htm http://www.trancez.com/ http://www.minnetonkaaudio.com/Soundfiles/Fire__VooDoo_Studio_30_sec.wav http://www.minnetonkaaudio.com/Soundfiles/Fire__VooDoo_Studio_1_min.wav http://www.dts-phile.com/downloads/download-main.html http://www.diatonis.com/downloads.html http://www.kellyindustries.com/diy_5_1.html --Snap-- and I found this link too. http://www.cinenow.com/us/vobtrailer.php3 Hope it helps. That means that as long as you don't use any downmixing, the sound quality should now be as good as it can be. > Only one time of 30-40 a pop/click appeared in the music, could be a > mastering issue as well. This could also very well be a problem with the downmixing routines (they need some more work) as they can easily overflow (right now all channels are assigned a 1 coefficient). I found the official downmixing coefficients table so I'll implement that when I've got time. > Though I've just used a set of headphones the > extra dimension of space seams to be there. The extensions can just be ignored by the decoders if they want to (and which we do right now). By the way, if anybody has a DTS sample using the 96/192kHz extension, I'd be glad to have a look at it. Not that I'm planning to add support for it just now (mainly because the spec doesn't cover the extensions) but I'd like to have one to add to my test samples collection ;). > The only issue I could find was when vlc-0.7.1-test1 stopped the > downmixing to stereo and only gave me the backchannels.
