From mitchell at kde.org Thu Oct 8 21:41:10 2009 From: mitchell at kde.org (Jeff Mitchell) Date: Thu, 08 Oct 2009 15:41:10 -0400 Subject: [mpris] Tag rating/playcount specification Message-ID: <4ACE4056.2020705@kde.org> Hello fellow FOSS music player developers, long time no talk. Something's come up. A while back Quod Libet developed a spec that they use in their player for storing rating and playcount data. The spec is both ambiguous and doesn't encourage interoperability, but Banshee is nevertheless on the verge of adopting it anyways (in a not-really-interoperabile-with-Quod-Libet fashion). I'd like to see a cross-player effort -- which should be pretty easy to do -- to come up with an actual workable standard that we can all agree upon, and one that works for various tag formats like VorbisComments and ID3v2 alike. I've proposed this to the Banshee devs, but they seem to be a little resistant. If anyone is interested in working with me to try to do something MPRIS-like for ratings and playcounts -- and again, it should be pretty easy -- I'd appreciate both you letting me know, and showing some support at the Banshee bug...the relevant parts of the thread start here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=532650#c36 (Please be sure to CC me on replies.)
