To whom it may concern,

Now, i am doing a project about "Wireless Video Streaming on a Linux-based PDA".

I have one laptop ( act as a server ) installed RH 9.0 with webcam connected with it. ( Logitech Quick Cam Zoom ). I have installed VLC 0.6.2.

I have one iPAQ ( act as a client ) installed Familiar Linux 0.6.0.

What i need to do is to stream the web cam image to the iPAQ through wirelesLAN, so that i can view my face on the iPAQ.

My problem is: After executing the following command:

"vlc -vvv v4l:/dev/video0:norm=secam:frequency:543259:channel=0:adev=/dev/audio1:audio=0 --sout '#transcode{vcodec=mpgv,acodec=mpga,vb=1024,ab=128,vt=800000,keyint=80,deinterlace}:std{access=udp,mux=ts,url=10.0.0.3}' --ttl 12"

I can view my face on the iPAQ in fullscreen, but with no sound. In the terminal window on my laptop, i saw some error message concerning with the sound problem:

"oss audio output error:write failed ( No such device ) "

since i can play CD and have sound in RH9.0, however, when i use vlc to play --> no sound!!!

1. So, i would like to know, is that i have to install back the oss module?

2. for the command line above, there are many things i can adjust to improve the quality of the image on the iPAQ, let say, if i want to keep the delay as small as possible, what kind of numbers should i use for the video bit rate, audio bit rate, and channel frequency?

3. If i want to stream the web cam image from my laptop to 2 iPAQs with the following ip address 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.3, what is the command line?

4.I want to know the resolution of the image that i saw in the iPAQ --> is it restricted by the web cam that i used or i can adjust it by vlc settings?

5.While i am streaming, at first, the quality is gd and the delay is around 1 to 2 sec. But , later on, don't know why the delay may increase to 5 to 10 secs..............later on, it may change back to have 1 to 2 sec delay...........how can i maintain the stability of streaming my web cam image onto the iPAQ?

Pls give me some hints on this!

Cheers,
