Wow, that was fast! It took me weeks to get amr_nb (amr) streaming work with recompiling vlc the last time I tried it ...
In fact, I got the same results: horrible sound in qtplayer and no sound in realplayer mobile (video was ok in both cases).
Also, I could not compile vlc with amr_wb (samr), which allows higher
samplerates, bitrates and stereo sound. I bet it's not a great
experience to listen to your mp3's in amr_nb quality ;)
Did you try to compile it with amr_wb? Maybe that's worth another try...

Regarding the http-streaming, did you enter the full url to the
sdp-file (e.g. http://myserver:port/my.sdp) or only the host:port part?
And did the http-streaming of mp4/aac work on the pc?
After hours of compiling and testing :

ffmpeg with faac and amr_nb support.
transcoding and streaming h263video or mpeg4 video with AAC
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* can play with QTPlayer on windows
* only video on realplayer symbian OS (player complains about sound is
not readable)

transcoding and streaming h263video or mpeg4 video with AMR narrow
band
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* can play with QTPlayer on windows with horrible sound
* can play on Realplayer symbian OS but sound is unaudible (like volume =
0) (player doesn't complain about sound)

Note that AMR is transcodable only with these settings : samplerate=8000
, channels=1 . So you can turn into trouble for transcoding some sound
format with 2 channels (eg wma2 ). And this makes impossible to have good
sound using amr.

Any suggests are welcome !

I didn't try to play the streamed mp4+aac (rtsp) with real player or

format/hinting issue.
