I put this on the translators list, for I think this is the better place for discussing it.

Maybe some of the translators want to comment on the topic as well.

If you have an acceptable internet connection, I'd suggest you try the transifex online translating tool.

You can lock/unlock a translation, to notify others you are working on it. It should be possible to use your approach (one starts at the top, the other one at the end).

If there is a different language you prefer as source (and the translation already exists), you can have it displayed as well.
So you won't have to rely on English alone.

Feel free to ask if I missed any important points.
Me or someone else here will probably be able to help.
Best regards
Hi Christoph, Chidanand

Thank you, Chidanand for joining us.
Till now I have just completed 2%. I uploaded the file in my Google
Drive and shared it with you. Check your email for the link.

Chidanand, download that file and translate from last and I'll do from
first. After translating one string, it'll go down to the last. So if
you want to correct a translated string, then search it from last. And
upload it.

Christoph, is there any other way to do this in a efficient manner? If
there is any, please suggest us, so that we can move to that method
rather than using Google Drive.

Regards,
Prasannajit Acharya
I want to translate VLC media player in Odia language. Can I get
localization file for this?

I think Odia is a different name for Oriya. You can chose how it
will be
displayed on videolan's website.

Variant A:
----------
You can find the .pot file to translate here:

http://git.videolan.org/?p=__vlc.git;a=blob_plain;f=po/vlc.__pot

<http://git.videolan.org/?p=vlc.git;a=blob_plain;f=po/vlc.pot>

Save it as vlc.pot. You can find instructions on how to
translate here:

http://www.videolan.org/__developers/i18n/vlc-howto.html

<http://www.videolan.org/developers/i18n/vlc-howto.html>

Use the software poEdit to edit the .pot file. You can find
poEdit here:
http://www.poedit.net/

Save your modified file with all translations as or.po (or is the
language code for Oriya), and then send it me.

Variant B:
----------
I could also offer you the choice of using transifex. You would
have to
create an account there and request the creation of a team for your
language here (only if you _want_ to use transifex):

https://www.transifex.net/__projects/p/vlc-trans/

<https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/vlc-trans/>

Some thoughts on this service:

http://www.videolan.org/__developers/i18n/transifex-__howto.html

<http://www.videolan.org/developers/i18n/transifex-howto.html>

----------

There is a special mailing list for translations on videolan:

translators@videolan.org <mailto:translators@videolan.org>

Best regards

Christoph
