[vlc-devel] how to interact with vlc ?

Hi

I looked at libvlc, but I can't find how to interact more deeply with vlc.
My goal is to write an application wich launches for example the record of a stream, and stop it.
But what I'd like to do is being informed when and why the stream stops, the length recorded etc...

How can I do this ?
