The problem is exactly the same as any other hardware video output. We
assume that the hardware does not really care which supported format is
used and thus try to minimize the conversion effort.

If you think there is a quality issue, then discuss with Laurent on fixing
the Fallback functions. I really don't want every video output reinventing
the square wheel. Personally, I am not convinced that there is a practical
problem (with any real device).
