Maximized state is irrelevant in fullscreen mode. The window manager
should ignore it.

But in any case, VLC does not touch the maximized bits. It only changes
the fullscreen mode (and the always-on-top mode, but that is outside the
scope of this discussion). So I still don't see any problem on VLC side.

Overriding the maximized state would cause glitches on currently working
systems, introduce a race condition that could clobber the window state,
and also affect other window system than X11. This is not acceptable in my
opinion.
