The function to enumerate available SD is, by design, non-blocking and 
synchronous, it cannot access the network in any circumstance and that is all 
there is to it.

The interface cannot be changed anytime soon since it is exposed externally by 
LibVLC, IIRC. Besides, it would be highly undesirable to make it asynchronous 
-only for Free SAS- considering it would add a lot of intricacies and bugs.
