Eventually, there will be tags in vlc.git that do not belong in
vlc-2.1.git, say 2.2.0-pre1. So that problem seems unavoidable.

IMHO, you should configure your cherry-picking remote to only fetch the
master branch. (TBH, I don't know if that actually works.)
