I am not sure I totally agree with you on this part. On numerous OSes,
accessing CIFS, UPnP or NFS is a huge pain, and even the famous libcurl
does not do a good job at it on many OSes (been there, done that.)
But that does not change the rest of the mail, I agree...

On that part, I agree. I know some of the limits of the dump demuxer.

Yes, it's a quick API I suggested (wrongly), to solve a quick problem.
