One thing is sure if VLC nukes your entire system:
Something is wrong with your debugger, drivers and/or hardware.
So I would not expect much from GCC...

I mean I nuked my PC by pressing "reset" because I have lost control of
the O/S GUI and task manager mouse, etc, were all unresponsive and
extremely slow it's like "you're using a 286 machine" you understand
what I mean?<br>
