In the past, kioexec was mainly assumed to handle it all. Then came a change, and apps where dumbed down to handle http and https per default, when %U is used.

So, yes, smb is probably not the only one that needs to be added to the list, but very likely for most users the most visible one.

<br>About a user in the url: you get to  the same as before the kde switch... Whatever it was (i don't know... I run gnome and gvfs handles it rather nicely it seems with vlc)
