out of sync audio

I would first like to say that I really appreciate all the hard work
that has gone into Video Lan. I finally had  a reason to erase that
Windows partition from my laptop. Thank you very much

I just upgraded to vlc 0.2.80 from the previous version on my debian
woody box. The problem I seem to be having is with out of sync audio.
The audio seems to be playing faster than the video on screen.

P3 800Mhz
tyan trinity S1854
micron 512Mb ram
ensoniq 1371 audio
voodoo 3 3000 AGP

vlc 0.2.80 with SDL plugin


any help would be appreciated.
