Odd, you have a much more powerful machine than I do, but I don't have those
problems. Are any other applications running when you are trying to play
the movie? I run vlc on a G4/400 with 448 megs and the only time I've
experience the chop is when I have other intensive applications that
constantly update itself every few seconds like Top or AquaMon running at
the same time I'm trying to watch a movie. If I close those applications or
the like, the movies play just fine. Browsers are fine, and so are email
applications, so is BitchX (irc client). Again, it's the constant pollers
that seem to be the troublemakers. As a matter of fact, if a troublemaker
isn't running, I have just the opposite experience: when the video first
starts playing, I have that audio desync problem, but it goes away in 30
seconds, and it's like playing any other well encoded QuickTime or MPEG
standalone.
