Hi:

I am trying to use VLC to play an MPEG4 encoded video. However, I cannot seem to be able to locate
the right codec. Can you tell me where can I find a good MPEG4 codec?

VLC doesn't use codecs as you may understand it. The support for decoding MPEG4 video is embeded on VLC, at least, on a fully functional VLC build as i suppose you are using.

Enable debug messages to know why your VLC can't play the video and provide VLC version and OS as well.
