<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Hi,</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>my name is Felix Dames.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>I just want to inform you about the lack of media
players supporting colormanagement!</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Even Windows Media Player and Quicktime are still
not yet colormanaged applications shortly saying there is no single media player
out there supporting it including VLC.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>But with the upcoming wide gamut displays which
colorspace is a lot more than sRGB, videos looks a lot over
saturated.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>At the moment the situation is really bad and a lot
of people all over the world complain about the problem with inaccurate colors
in color aware applications.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>The problem is that even windows 7 has no fix for
these applications and espacially the media players don't support
it.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>At the moment the only solution to view the right
colors of a video file (on a wide gamut display) is to use Adobe After
Effects which is colormanaged. Even Adobe Premiere is not
colormanaged!</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>These wide gamut displays have a colorspace similar
to AdobeRGB which is much bigger than the standard sRGB colorspace.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>The way it works in Adobe applications like
Photoshop or AfterEffects is that the application request from the OS which
colorspace / .icc profile the display is using (on a wide gamut display it's
mostly AdobeRGB)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>and because of nearly every video or movie file is
in sRGB colorspace the application can then perform a conversion from sRGB to
AdobeRGB.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Then the application just send as normal the RGB
values to the graphic card but these RGB values correspond now to the bigger
wide gamut colorspace and thats why the colors are showen correctly on the
display.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>I don't know on what features you are coding
at the moment but I think colormanagement is one of the very importend
one.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>So I would love to see a colormanaged VLC Player in
the near future because you would be the first who have implemented
it!</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>So please think about it!</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>A good movie but with wrong colors is maby no good
movie ;)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>I'm not a coder but I read something about an API
from Micosoft for colormanagement so maby it is not that hard to implement
it.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>If you are unshure about how importend this feature
is then please took the time and google a bit about this problem and you will
find tons of forums with users complaining about it.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>Thank for reading up to here ;)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>best regards</FONT></DIV>
