ok.. i'll look at that. you cant have strict output with < 4 ref frames , there just arent enough slots to do it. </div>OK, I've munged your patch into the attached, which makes it only one<br>
option with three modes (off, strict, normal).<br>

However, it appears that the patch doesn't work correctly with<br>
"strict" B-pyramid and fewer than 4 refs; it produces invalid output<br>
(JM agrees). Do you know what the problem is?<br>
