"Error cracking CSS key"

I'm using
    libdvdcss 1.2.8
    FreeBSD 4.9
    x86 (more precisely, Athlon)
    Sony DRU-510A drive

I have never (knowingly) set the region on the DVD drive.

Many DVDs play with no problem, but a recent acquisition
(Office Space, PAL, region 2) produces the following behaviour
with DVDCSS_VERBOSE=2. The following is with ogle 0.9.2,
but much the same happens with Xine. A few of the output
lines may be from Ogle rather than from libdvdcss or libdvdread.

I haven't tried to play the offending DVD in any other system, so
I can't rule out the possibility that it's defective. (But it's newly
purchased, from a reputable shop, so that doesn't seem very
likely.)

Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance...
