Oh, and sorry about the double post,

If someone shows interest in fixing the API design issues, I'd be glad
to (re)write implementations.
The main cause in the lack of adoption of the spec was indeed its poor
design (and our inability to do any better) so with a proper API
redesign, IMHO, this project could eventually become something useful.
