i also tried that: when compiling v4l-support into vlc-snapshot
with --enable-v4l the configure-output says:
checking for libv4l/v4l.h usability... no
checking for libv4l/v4l.h presence... no
checking for libv4l/v4l.h... no
so i checked for the file myself and there is not even the folder libv4l

i asked over at the vlc-list and got the following answer from jason luka:

# someone can point me to where the files are, I'd try to get it into the
