[streaming] Input type v4l invalid? Arrgh!

I compiled vls with --enable-v4l --with-ffmpeg=/usr/local/ffmpeg
Yet when I start vls it tells me "input type "v4l" invalid". Is the input type
supposed to be called something other than v4l? That's what it's listed as in
the docs. Is v4l broken in the 0.5.3 build?
Oh, and xawtv lets me watch TV, so I know I've got the video side working OK.
Any notions?
Thanks,
Elliot
