However, don't forget that real time transcoding is very power consuming
(a 1.5GHz PIV is  required to transcode a full screen  video in a decent
quality).

I would also advise you to  use libavcodec (mp4v encoding module) rather
than  xvid. It  is  aonther  free implementation  of  MPEG4, that  gives
roughly the same quality, but is much faster.
