[streaming] vls vs. vlc

Hi All...

First, I'd like to congratulate all of the developer's on an excellent
video solution. I've looked at a number of commercial systems and videolan
clearly blows them away in quality. It's amazing.

One thing that I am now concerned with though is the unclear differences
and blending of the VLC and VLS features. I'm wondering if a lot of energy
and work is being duplicated in developing code to do similar functions for
both programs.

In addition, it makes it very difficult for users to understand which
program they should use for what.

I have seen posts on very large re-writes for VLS, but am concerned that
this could be some time away, and some critical functionality is now missing
from VLS. My particular problem is being able to use VLS to stream MPEG1
files correctly. There seems to be an issue in the localinput module (?)
where the stream is not getting recognized properly. The files stream fine
under VLC. But, for system requirements and stability, I would much prefer
to stream with VLS, and use VLC for the clients only.

Has anyone looked at (in the near term) moving the input portion of VLC
into the VLS code? Or (better yet), creating a common function base for
both VLC and VLS to use?

I may be able to jump in and assist on some development efforts, but
wanted to get a clearer picture of VLC vs. VLS development efforts (IE:
don't want to put all the effort into VLS if VLS development is fading).

  Thanks Again!

   -Larry
