[streaming] Problems streaming certain MPEGS [Computer Assets #42]

I tried asking on IRC about this, but didn't have much luck.
I tried searching the archives, but that doesn't seem to be working.
I'm not sure if this is even a VLC issue, but it's worth a shot.
Symptoms: Various MPEG files are being sent to multicast addresses via
VLC, to be received by other machines running VLC. In some cases,
*depending on the file played*, the switch is not getting anything from
the sending machine. In other cases, some initial info about the video
is sent but the video itself is not.
Environment: Windows XP, tested with VLC 0.6.2 and an unknown version;
Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, tested with VLC 0.5.3, 0.6.0, and 0.6.2; Debian
Woody, kernel 2.4.18, tested with VLC 0.6.0 and 0.6.2 (all versions play
all files locally); Cajun P334T switch; all machines sent MPEG streams
to udp://225.1.1.1:2001 in all cases.
Additional info: All computers are able to play all videos locally with
all versions of VLC, so it isn't a problem with the computers
themselves.
Some videos (all recorded by XP machines from DVDs) can be successfully
received, independant of what machine is sending and what machine is
receiving. Other videos can only be sent from Windows machines. VLC
decodes all videos as MPEG.
Is there some subtype of MPEG? Why would certain MPEGs which play
locally
not be multicastable? Why would a subset of those only be multicastable
from Windows machines? How can I ensure that I'm creating content which
will
be multicastable from any machine?
