That depends on you settings inside vls.cfg, mine says:

# Application wide settings
BEGIN "Global"
   LogFile       = ""           # Log to a file
   SystemLog     = "enable"     # Log to system log : enable or disable
   ScreenLog     = "disable"     # Log to the console
END

Which makes logging appear in the system log file /var/log/messages. 
Change "LogFile" in:

   LogFile       = "vls.log"    # Log to a file

then the logging from vls will be written to vls.log in the directory 
where you started vls. Read the documentation for your particular 
version of vls (the example is from version 0.5.5). I know for example 
that the latest cvs version requires all keywords to be in lowercase.
