And v4l is quite hit and miss?? Only maintainer is hard work....

I imagine testing all the webcams on the market would be rather
expensive ;)

Cool - I'll keep on learning the code and posting the little bits I
find....  as long as someone's listening, I'll spend the time trying
to identify whats causing the trauma.... BTW, has that multicast ttl
issue been nailed yet (I sent a rather full explanation in an email a
while ago....) ????
