Hello, here are 1 or 2 ideas about your project :
- The archtecture you are panning makes sense to me. However, be aware
that you'll need a quite recent computer tu plug the webcam in : you'll
need to make real time encoding, which requires some cpu power (p4 1.5
GHz for real time fullscreen MPEG4 encoding).
- which way will you use to stream on the internet on the servers ?
Using vlc as a udp multicast -> http proxy would make sense, in my
opinion. However, be aware that, as far as I know, no high load test,
with lots of http connections have been made on vlc. In fact, we would
be pleased to get some feedback on that point
- vlc is unable to command a dv camera directly. You will need to use an
external program to set the camera, then have vlc read the resulting
video directly on a device / fifo, and transcode the result in a
streamable format. This should be possible, but hasn't really been
tested, AFAIK.
