Do you have sound local on your RH9.0 machine?

Probably the internal microphone is not activated by RH9.0. At least I 
could not get it to work quickly.

You have to specify the video and the audio device to use in your v4l 
commandline syntax. See archives and documentation on VideoLAN website 
how to do that.
