If you do no have sound local, then you won't have it remote. So fix the
sound capturing on your laptop.

Probably, but I haven't tried it. But it sounds like you are using an
older version of VLC (prior to v0.7.0) and then I don't think it works.

Add --fullscreen to the commandline of opie-vlc. It should go
fullscreen, but I haven't tested it.

If you have squares and blurring then the bitrate of the resulting
webcam stream is probably to big for your bandwidth. Check the streaming
bitrate with e.g: iptraf (on you laptop will do).
