Well not really. Mainly because it will reduce your chances of getting

Really depends on the resolution you use, the quality you deem acceptable, 
etc...
You should give it a go and decide by yourself.

VLC will be able to transcode your VCD or MPEG-x files on the fly to 
Ogg/Theora/Vorbis (assuming you have a big enough CPU).

Give it a go. Theora support is included in the official win32 and OSX VLC 
binaries.
