[streaming] Streaming from GeForce 5700 ViVo card

Sorry if my question is note 100% linked to vlc but...

i plan to install a streaming solution usilng vlc or vlc. For my tests, 
i have a computer with a video card GeForce 5700 ViVo (so video In and out).

Can anybody tell me if it will work on a 2.4 kernel with v4l installed 
or should i build a 2.6 kernel with v4l2.
Maybe v4l2 is not necessary..

If anybody as a positive experiment with that card...
