I have tried the Moonlight plug-in and have used it to play
MPEG2-TS over UDP in WMP. It does enable playback of a UDP
stream but their released version has the same issues as vlc
i.e. takes too much of CPU to playback a 1080i stream.
However, Moonlight has a beta version of their DxVA-enabled
MPEG decoder. I am not really sure how to use this version
and I am hoping that they move it out of beta soon so I can
use it.
I also got an HDTV tuner + decoder card and am trying to see
if I can use the on-board MPEG decoder chip to decode the HD
stream.

That's what I am working on. I have asked for a faster PC and
hopefully will get it sometime soon.
In the meantime I demo'ed the system this week by streaming an
MPEG4-HD file (DivX HD) through vlc and played it through vlc
too. Worked great but the data rate was less than half that of
an MPEG2-HD stream.
Thanks again for all your help and more so for making vlc such
a great app!
