Indeed it was the provider (Eplus_DE) who blocked RTP packets somewhere,
as they didn't arrive at my device!
I've tested the streams with in T-Mobile_DE GPRS network with the same
device
and it worked well!
So maybe the list of RTSP-friendly newtork operators may be a helpful
resource for
anyone, trying to stream to a mobile phone, hence again the link:
http://lists.apple.com/archives/streaming-server-users/2005/Mar/msg00191.html

I've also setup a small html page with links to the streams i've tested.
there is also
a form to send feedback if the streams worked or not on your device.
feel free to test those streams! feedback through the form would be highly
appreciated, if some people test it i can post the results in this list.

here's the url: http://141.28.227.78/test.jsp

I received some UDP packages from 6630 after a while, but according to
Etherreal they don't
seem to be RTCP RR (not even RTCP) packages. Don't know what they were,
but doesn't
really matter since it was a provider problem and works now.

I agree, seems that this is a Philips Platform4 Player specific issue.
have not seen this behaviour with other players.

GREAT! I've heard about this, but never found it through google, only
some dead links.
Again, there was something pretty good hidden :)

right, its a file format issue. the mp4 format produced by vlc is not
3gp compliant (doesn't play
(local playback - not streaming) on my 6630 nokia device), and you can't
mux into 3gp format
with VLC. I use ffmpeg now to produce mp4 and 3gp files, they are
already working for local
playback. to stream them with darwin, you have to add hint tracks. you
may use MP4Box from
the gpac.sourceforge.net project for this task, then they will be
streamed by darwin.

Thank you very much for your extensive help!
