[streaming] late buffer for mux input

I have a couple of Twinhan Cab/CI 2031(0) DVB-C cards, plus 1 KNC1 DVB-C
card + CI.

In principle everything is working (more or less), but I need some
fine-tuning.

I get a lot of "late buffer for mux input" messages all the time. This
happens roughly simultaneously on both input cards. The CPU is a 2.4 GHz
Celeron, and cpu idle time is roughly 90%, so that can hardly be the
problem. Sometimes the video gets choppy during these messages,
sometimes no difference can be noted.

If I play a full-quality MPEG2 movie from the HDD, this message never
occurs, so it is clearly related to the input cards. Also video quality
is always 100% (no chopping).

If I understand things correctly, the meaning of this message is that
the (processed) data arrives (too?) late to be muxed into the output
stream ("underflow") ?

But why?

I am not doing any transcoding, just straight streaming ....

And is there a way to increase the buffers, such that this underflow
problem can be absorbed into the buffers?

Or perhaps I am seeing this all wrong, and someone can enlighten me how
to eliminate this problem?

Thank you all and best regards,

Z.
