I've now managed to build what I think is a working VLC-0.8.5 on my test
system (x86_64 CentOS4), and have verified that the problems from the
VLC-0.8.4 builds I had still mostly remain. In short;
-Transcoding and streaming my 'divx'-file to the WMP9 client produces
only a single horizontal line of video. The same stream renders
correctly on WMP10
-Transcoding and streaming my '.mpg'-file (mpeg1) to the WMP9 or WMP10
clients works.
-Transcoding and streaming my '.mp4'-file (mpeg4) from VLC-0.8.4 will
crash VLC 0.8.5(official Win32-build), WMP9 and WMP10 clients.
-Transcoding and streaming my '.mp4'-file (mpeg4) from VLC-0.8.5 works
on all tested clients

All tests were performend with the same VLC settings - WMV2 was the
codec chosen for video transcoding, but the issue single-horizontal-line
-issue was originally seen with 'DIV3'.

I'll move this to the VLC group, as it seems that the problem is not in
the streaming but in the transcoding, where the resulting stream is
dependent on the format of the original file/stream.

Yours,
-S
