A little more information on this. The same Win32 VLC 0.8.5-build is
also able to stream the '.mp4' -file to WMP9 successfully.

I'm assuming that the problem I found was limited to my 0.8.4-versions,
so I will now build VLC 0.8.5 on my intended system and redo my tests
from there.

So far, my conclusion is that the HOWTO-entry that started this
(http://www.videolan.org/doc/streaming-howto/en/ch04.html#id294660) is
correct for v 0.8.5 (but not for v 0.8.4).

Further, it has been suggested that I use WMV1 or WMV2 instead of DIV3,
as they are supported by WMP for sure - I can't comment on that as all
WMP10 clients have played DIV3 without issues for me, but someone else
may have use for this.

Does any of this go into the HOWTO in any way? I'll document this
further when I've made more progress, but I'd also like a little
feedback from the developers on this.

Yours,
