Well I do and then the client segfaults!  So I guess there is a reason for 
that code -- it's a guard against client bugs with non-Real/Helix servers?

*Sigh*.  What I really don't understand is all these people claiming VLC 
client works with the server.  That has me downright baffled given the 
state of the sourcecode rejecting VLC servers outright..
