IMHO, the VLC player is best used as a client, not a server.

VLC's RTSP server implementation is currently incomplete.  Instead, I 
suggest using the "LIVE555 Media Server"
	http://www.live555.com/mediaServer/
which can stream MPEG Transport Stream files (including 'trick play' 
functionality) to Amino set-top boxes.
