At a guess i would say your hardware encoder is encoding the
CEFAX/Caption carousel from the TV feed.

The way to check this is to analyse the stream that comes from the
card. Video Lan can do this to a certain degree. You want to dump the
raw TS out into a file and then see what is in it. I think you'll find
the raw mp4 in the TS contains the encoded caption data rather than it
being in a separate TS stream.

If on the other hand the caption/cefax is in a separate TS stream,
then you should be able to turn off the rendering of that stream in
VideoLan, though its been a while since i used it.
