Friends,

The familiar distribution has undergone major changes. For one thing it
uses GTK2 now. Also in VLC a lot of new features and code has been
added. This combination made the creation of the iPaq version for VLC
complicated and calls for more testing. I know some of you are waiting
for a new iPaq version, and think it is unwise to hold you all in
suspense much longer. Therefor there is a test version for iPaq in the
testing directory of the videolan ftp-site.

A warning though this is an early version there is more work to do in
testing and fixing small and tricky problems before this version is as
stable as the others. I need your feedback on all the problems in this
version.

The new features in the iPaq version of VLC are:

 * GUI:
    - GTK2 based GUI called PDA (instead of familiar).
    - The familiar version is deprecated.
    - The SDL dependency has been removed video ouput
          is generated through X11 directly now.
    - Gettext support for all languagues supported by VLC

* Streaming Server:
    - Streaming server (audio and video) through sout module
        - Improved MPEG TS muxer
        - Proper PTS/DTS generation in the transcoding module

* Input:
          - Support for Video4Linux on iPaq

* Misc:
        - Service Location Protocol support through OpenSLP module

* Codec:
        - New codec XVID
        - Subtitle rendering with freetype module

The location:

ftp://ftp.videolan.org/pub/videolan/testing/vlc-0.6.2-test1/ipaq/vlc_0.6.2_arm_test1.ipk

Currently Known bugs:
- Regression in some file formats avi, mov and some do not work mp4.
- libdvbpsi is broken on iPaq, for network input force ts demuxer (use :
vlc udp/ts:@:1234)
- GUI filelist browsing does not work

Todo:
- build opie version (withouth GUI)

Thanks for the feedback.
