OK, so now VLC does not configure anymore on current Debian (2.2) which
has sdl 1.1.6.

I had no problems building (and running) vlc so far with this version,
is
it really necessary to have 1.1.7? It is always best to stay with
stable,
distributed version whenever possible, and as for myself I really would
hate to break my system just to be able to build vlc.
