Which cvs branch to work on ?

Hi,

I am just asking me which cvs branch is the good one to play with. In
fact I just have successfully patched my local directory using a cvs
update -r v0_4_1branch. I was trying this since sunday now and wihtout
any result. I think I missed something because, I try to work with the
main branch. So what is the good branch to use when developping ? Who is
authorized to play with development branch (MAIN) and who is not ?
