Whould it be possible to use the configuration system of vlc to
automatically generate the "open..." dialog? The way I see things, the
interface could add a tab for each available input module. It could then use
the same strategy as the preferences window to show the variables of a
certain category, say "playback", of each input module in that modules tab.
This way the users default dvd device could show up in the dialog _and_ the
user don't get error messages when using a vlc compiled without satelite
support. As an extra bonus a developer could make an input module that is
usable from the gui without having to modify gtk, qt, gnome, windows, kde and
macos gui code.
