[vlc-devel] What does transcoding module do?

Hi all !!!

I'm confused about how transcoding module works. In VLC can have several 
inputs and  spread output formats.  I've read doc about VLC and I 
couldn't understand  how transcoding module work in relation input-output.
Anybody can explain me?
