Hello,
the version 0.6.2 of VLC has a bug, which prevents the execution on Mac 
OS X 10.1.x. This will be fixed in version 0.7.0, which is (hopefully) 
going to be released next week.

You may want to try a preview release. It can be found at 
<http://www.videolan.org/pub/videolan/testing/vlc-0.7.0-test2/macosx/>, 
but please do not put it on software sites or user-forums.
