Hm. There was one nice thing about the BMessage settings file: It was 
actually forward compatible. This means, if the user launched an older 
version of vlc (not unlikely), the items in the settings file, that 
only the newer version of vlc knows about, would not have been 
overwritten. But I can live with that...
