I am aware that you have many other priorities, and since I haven't heard
from any other user with RH7.3 with similar problem, is it fair to say that
the latest version 0.6.0 may not work on RH7.3 unless libmpeg2 developers
solve this problem. Do you have a version of RH that you have tested and
would recommend ?

Indeed, VLC 0.6.0 now uses libmpeg2 to decode MPEG2 content (while it
used its own decoder in 0.5.3 and previous releases).

mpeg2dec developers == libmpeg2 developers. mpeg2dec is quite a sample
application to show how to use libmpeg2 in another application (ok, it
is a bit more than a sample app, but you see what I mean...)
