Any chance this video card upgrade was around the same you upgraded 
your VLC?
VLC on OS X has become quite slow in the last two releases. This will 
improve quite a lot in the next release though. The fixes in that 
should allow you to play divx again at about the same degree as mplayer 
does (if you enable hurry-up that is. For instructions look in the 
README.MacOSX.rtf file )
